Some Like It Hot (c) Marc J. Franklin
It is way too early to talk Tony Predictions. I know. But award shows are my sporting events, and I’m sure baseball fans are already talking about which teams will make it to the world series already and yet the season is only a week old. There are a lot of shows which haven’t even opened yet to make the cutoff date of April 27. But let’s see where we’re at based on reactions: on- off- and regionally.
Crazy that this season, which started on May 4, will have had productions of 10 Pulitzer Prize-winning works running sometime during the season. Between Riverside and Crazy, Cost of Living, Death of a Salesman, Fat Ham, The Piano Lesson and Topdog/Underdog all had productions on Broadway while we had holdovers like Hamilton, How I Learned to Drive, The Skin of Our Teeth and A Strange Loop from previous seasons. And if we add Off-Broadway in the mix – we also had Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Delicate Balance.
So, here are my prediction (and two possibilities) in each of the major categories for early April. And I will, of course, send out my predictions once all the productions have opened.
